Monument de l'aviateur Quellenec à Laon – Laon

Monument assez méconnu, il marque pourtant le lieu précis du crash d'un aéroplane français à Laon durant la Première Guerre, épisode qui marqua les esprits tant du côté des habitants que des occupants allemands. Il abrite de nos jours la sépulture du brigadier Frédéric Quellenec, dont l'avion fut abattu par un appareil allemand le vendredi 31/03/1916, même si à la base lui et son co-pilote le lieutenant Moinier avaient été inhumés (avec les honneurs) par les Allemands dans un cimetière militaire situé en ville haute, sur le plateau Saint-Vincent…

This monument is not well known, but it marks the exact location of the crash of a French airplane in Laon during the First World War, an episode that marked the spirits of both the inhabitants and the German occupiers. Today it houses the grave of Brigadier Frédéric Quellenec, whose plane was shot down by a German aircraft on Friday 31/03/1916, even though he and his co-pilot Lieutenant Moinier had been buried (with honors) by the Germans in a military cemetery located in the upper town, on the Saint-Vincent plateau…

Das Denkmal ist eher unbekannt, obwohl es die genaue Absturzstelle eines französischen Flugzeugs in Laon während des Ersten Weltkriegs markiert, eine Episode, die sowohl bei den Einwohnern als auch bei den deutschen Besatzern einen bleibenden Eindruck hinterließ. Heute befindet sich hier die Grabstätte des Brigadiers Frédéric Quellenec, dessen Flugzeug am Freitag, den 31.03.1916 von einem deutschen Flugzeug abgeschossen wurde, obwohl er und sein Kopilot Leutnant Moinier ursprünglich von den Deutschen auf einem Militärfriedhof in der Oberstadt auf dem Plateau Saint-Vincent (mit allen Ehren) beerdigt worden waren…

Dit weinig bekende monument markeert de precieze plaats waar tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog in Laon een Frans vliegtuig neerstortte, een gebeurtenis die zowel bij de inwoners als bij de Duitse bezetters zijn sporen naliet. Tegenwoordig bevindt zich hier het graf van brigadier Frédéric Quellenec, wiens vliegtuig op vrijdag 31/03/1916 werd neergeschoten door een Duits vliegtuig, hoewel hij en zijn copiloot luitenant Moinier oorspronkelijk (met eerbetoon) door de Duitsers werden begraven op een militaire begraafplaats in de bovenstad, op het plateau van Saint-Vincent…
