Le Castellas

Le Castellas (qui signifie "château-fort en ruines" en provençal), fut édifié en 1150 par Pierre Brémond, seigneur d'Auriol, vraisemblablement sur l'ancienne villa romaine de Solobie (Solobium en latin). Sa destruction, en 1593, advint sous le règne d’Henry IV, lors du démantèlement des châteaux-forts de Provence, sous le commandement du Duc d'Épernon. Les ruines actuelles se composent de deux tours qui encadrent des remparts (97m) et le donjon, salle voûtée.

Le Castellas (which means "castle in ruins" in Provençal), was built in 1150 by Pierre Brémond, lord of Auriol, probably on the ancient Roman villa of Solobie (Solobium in Latin). It was destroyed in 1593 during the reign of Henry IV, when the fortified castles of Provence were dismantled under the command of the Duke of Epernon. The current ruins consist of two towers that frame the ramparts (97m) and the keep, a vaulted room.

Das Castellas (provenzalisch für "Burgruine") wurde 1150 von Pierre Brémond, dem Herrn von Auriol, vermutlich auf der alten römischen Villa Solobie (Solobium auf Latein) errichtet. Die Zerstörung erfolgte 1593 unter der Herrschaft von Heinrich IV. im Zuge der Schleifung der Festungen der Provence unter dem Kommando des Herzogs von Épernon. Die heutigen Ruinen bestehen aus zwei Türmen, die die Stadtmauer (97 m) und den Donjon, einen gewölbten Raum, einrahmen.
