HEUILLEY-COTTON – Villegusien-le-Lac

L'étymologie du nom de la commune est incertaine : la première partie viendrait d'un nom de personne (Ulius) ; quant à la seconde, il pourrait s'agir du nom du village voisin, Cohons (Cotho au Moyen-Age) ajouté afin d'éviter la confusion avec Heuilley-le-Grand. Autrefois, la commune produisait un vin léger et assez estimé. Vincent Lombard (Langres 1765, Paris 1830) magistrat à la Cour de cassation, diplomate et littérateur disait : " Heuilley-Cotton, mon doux pays, O que j'ai soif de ton ombrage".
