Un castor sur un mur – Laurent le Deunff – Nantes

Procédant avec humour par glissements de temps et de lieux dans son œuvre, Laurent Le Deunff a imaginé pour le vestige de la porte Sauvetout, à l’occasion du Voyage à Nantes 2021, un animal « totem » en la figure d’un castor à queue de poisson, tiré d’un ouvrage du Moyen Âge. Ce castor sur un mur habite désormais pour les trois ans à venir les vestiges archéologiques de la porte Saint-Pierre. Témoin de l’histoire de Nantes, la porte Saint-Pierre compte parmi les édifices majeurs de la ville tant par sa situation dans le centre historique, ses aménagements successifs, que la concentration d’éléments patrimoniaux et archéologique alentours. Laurent Le Deunff met en scène une histoire fictive pour ce vestige. Figure anachronique en bronze à la queue argentée – représentation elle-même fictive issue de croyances populaires –, l’artiste propulse l’animal dans un autre cadre temporel et dans un scénario incongru.

Laurent Le Deunff?s humorous use of shifts of time and place in his work has led him to imagine a "totem" animal in the shape of a fish-tailed beaver, taken from a medieval work, for the remains of the Sauvetout Gate during the Voyage à Nantes 2021. For the next three years, this beaver on a wall will inhabit the archaeological remains of the Porte Saint-Pierre. A witness to the history of Nantes, Porte Saint-Pierre is one of the city?s most important buildings, both in terms of its location in the historic center, its successive redevelopments, and the concentration of heritage and archaeological elements in the surrounding area. Laurent Le Deunff stages a fictional history for this vestige. An anachronistic bronze figure with a silver tail – itself a fictitious representation derived from popular belief – the artist propels the animal into a different time frame and an incongruous scenario.

Laurent Le Deunff geht in seinem Werk humorvoll mit Zeit- und Ortsverschiebungen um und hat für die Überreste der Porte Sauvetout anlässlich der Voyage à Nantes 2021 ein "Totemtier" in Form eines Bibers mit Fischschwanz aus einem mittelalterlichen Werk entworfen. Dieser Biber auf einer Mauer bewohnt nun für die nächsten drei Jahre die archäologischen Überreste der Porte Saint-Pierre. Die Porte Saint-Pierre ist ein Zeugnis der Geschichte von Nantes und zählt aufgrund ihrer Lage im historischen Zentrum, ihrer sukzessiven Umgestaltung und der Konzentration von Kulturerbe und archäologischen Fundstücken in ihrer Umgebung zu den wichtigsten Gebäuden der Stadt. Laurent Le Deunff inszeniert eine fiktive Geschichte für dieses Relikt. Als anachronistische Bronzefigur mit silbernem Schwanz – eine fiktive Darstellung aus dem Volksglauben – katapultiert der Künstler das Tier in einen anderen Zeitrahmen und in ein unpassendes Szenario.

Laurent Le Deunff's humoristische gebruik van verschuivingen in tijd en plaats in zijn werk heeft hem ertoe gebracht een totemdier voor te stellen in de vorm van een visstaartbever, afkomstig uit een boek uit de Middeleeuwen, voor de overblijfselen van de Poort van Sauvetout tijdens de Voyage à Nantes 2021. Deze bever op een muur zal de komende drie jaar de archeologische overblijfselen van de Porte Saint-Pierre bewonen. Als getuige van de geschiedenis van Nantes is de Porte Saint-Pierre een van de belangrijkste gebouwen van de stad, zowel wat betreft de ligging in het historische centrum, de opeenvolgende verbouwingen als de concentratie van erfgoed en archeologische elementen eromheen. Laurent Le Deunff heeft een fictieve geschiedenis gecreëerd voor dit overblijfsel. Een anachronistische bronzen figuur met een zilveren staart – zelf een fictieve voorstelling ontleend aan het volksgeloof – de kunstenaar stuwt het dier in een ander tijdsbestek en een ongerijmd scenario.

Durante los próximos tres años, este castor de pared habitará los restos arqueológicos de la Puerta Saint-Pierre. Testigo de la historia de Nantes, la Puerta Saint-Pierre es uno de los edificios más importantes de la ciudad, tanto por su ubicación en el centro histórico como por sus sucesivas alteraciones y la concentración de elementos patrimoniales y arqueológicos a su alrededor. Laurent Le Deunff ha creado una historia ficticia para este vestigio. Figura anacrónica de bronce con cola de plata -representación ficticia derivada de la creencia popular-, el artista traslada al animal a un marco temporal diferente y a un escenario incongruente.

L'uso umoristico degli spostamenti nel tempo e nel luogo nel suo lavoro ha portato Laurent Le Deunff a immaginare un animale totem a forma di castoro dalla coda di pesce, tratto da un libro del Medioevo, per i resti della Porta di Sauvetout durante il Voyage à Nantes 2021. Per i prossimi tre anni, questo castoro su un muro abiterà i resti archeologici della Porte Saint-Pierre. Testimone della storia di Nantes, la Porta Saint-Pierre è uno degli edifici più importanti della città, sia per la sua posizione nel centro storico, sia per le sue successive modifiche, sia per la concentrazione di elementi del patrimonio e archeologici che la circondano. Laurent Le Deunff ha creato una storia fittizia per questa vestigia. Anacronistica figura in bronzo con la coda d'argento – essa stessa una rappresentazione fittizia derivata dalle credenze popolari – l'artista proietta l'animale in un'altra epoca e in uno scenario incongruo.
