Description
L'église Saint-Martin à Auxais offre un magnifique panorama sur les marais du Cotentin qui l'entourent. C'est pour cette raison qu'elle sera détruite en 1944 pendant les combats de la libération. The church Saint-Martin of Auxais called "cathedral des Rozs" was bombed on June 24th, 1944 by the allied aviation for its stratégic point of view over the marshlands.
At the end of the fightings, the City Council decided to preserve the church Saint-Martin as a ruin, in tribute to the victims of the 1944.
For the "anecdote", the church owes its nickname "Cathédral des Rozs" to its location. Indeed, this one is situated in the middle of reed beds, in the heart of the swamps of Cotentin. Rozs, in Norman dialect, means plants and others reeds used to cover thatched cottages.

Die Kirche Saint-Martin in Auxais bietet einen herrlichen Ausblick auf die sie umgebenden Sümpfe des Cotentin. Aus diesem Grund wurde sie 1944 während der Befreiungskämpfe zerstört.
