Elle a été construite sur les vestiges de l'ancienne forteresse par la famille de Laval-Montmorency. Chennebrun était l'un des châteaux qui assuraient la défense de la Normandie contre la France, sur la frontière qui délimitait alors le duché de Normandie et le royaume de France. De l'époque du château fort subsistent encore les murs d'enceinte et les tours de guet.

It was built on the remains of the former fortress by the Laval-Montmorency family. Chennebrun was one of the castles that used to protect Normandy against France on the border that separated the Duchy of Normandy and the Kingdom of France. The fortification wall and the watchtowers of the old castle are still visible today.
