A trip to the Scottish Highlands, for example, inspired Felix Mendelssohn to write the stirring romanticism of his Symphony No. 3, born of contemplation of the ruins of a castle overgrown with ivy and wild brambles. Another jewel to emerge from this Scottish visit, The Hebrides, like Symphony no. 3, is one of the German composer?s most popular works. Steeped in the grandiose landscapes and tormented skies of the Highlands, Mendelssohn?s music is neither illustrative nor folkloric, conveying more his impressions, exalted by the score. So inspirierte eine Reise in die schottischen Highlands Felix Mendelssohn zu seiner romantischen Sinfonie Nr. 3, die aus der Betrachtung einer von Efeu und wilden Brombeeren überwucherten Burgruine entstand. Die Hebriden, ein weiteres Juwel aus dieser Schottlandreise, gehören wie die Symphonie Nr. 3 zu den beliebtesten Werken des deutschen Komponisten. Mendelssohns Musik ist weder illustrativ noch folkloristisch, sondern spiegelt vielmehr seine Eindrücke wider, die in der Partitur zum Ausdruck kommen.
