Vitraux – Notre-Dame de la nativité – Freyming-Merlebach

Les vitraux de l'église de la Nativité, sont le fruit du Vitrailliste Naborien Arthur SCHOULER. Il s'agit de son premier travail, réalisé en trois étapes, bien après la construction de l’église (elle fut édifiée de 1924 à 1926). La première partie, soit les 5 vitraux du chœur, fut réalisée en 1953, puis suivirent en 1957, ceux de l'avant-chœur et du transept et enfin ceux de la nef en 1960. Il y a 23 verrières en tout. Les vitraux ont été réalisés en verre antique de couleur, peints, cuits au four et mis sous plomb. L'artiste Arthur SCHOULER est né en 1927 à Fouligny. En 1946 il s'inscrit à 'école Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Paris et devient l'élève de Nicolas UNTERSTELLER. Ses études achevées, Il revient à St-Avold et plus particulièrement à l'atelier de l'artiste naborien Helmuth MULLER, il s'y initie à la sculpture, puis travaille comme maquettiste, à l’atelier des vitraux d'art BOHL-SCHNELLER à Haguenau, dans ce domaine qu'il affectionne tant.
