Tour du Rempart (en travaux) – Paray-le-Monial

Cette tour, en partie conservée, s’intégrait à l’enceinte fortifiée de la ville. Elle renforçait un point faible à proximité de la rivière. Les traces les plus anciennes se trouvent actuellement au centre du bâtiment. La partie en hémicycle, ajoutée à la fin du Moyen Âge (15e s.), est dotée à son sommet de trois canonnières actuellement bouchées. La charpente en demi-cône n’est pas datée, mais elle n’existait pas au 17e siècle.

This tower, partly preserved, was part of the fortified city wall. It reinforced a weak point near the river. The oldest traces of the tower can be found in the centre of the building. The semicircular part, added at the end of the Middle Ages (15th century), has three gunports at the top, which are now blocked. The half-cone roof structure is undated, but was not in existence in the 17th century.
