All year round, Montmaurin's archaeological sites and museum take you back in time to discover prehistoric and Gallo-Roman man, with visits to the Gallo-Roman villas of Lassalles and La Hillère and the archaeological museum.
The museum, located in the center of the village, has 3 permanent exhibition rooms with a modern, educational museography. It displays objects unearthed from the Gallo-Roman villa at Lassalles and La Hillère, as well as those found in prehistoric caves and rock shelters in the surrounding area: cave lion skeletons, carved stones, early human mandibles and, of course, a facsimile of the famous Venus de Lespugue.
On the Lassalles site, visitors will discover living quarters, several courtyards, Pyrenean marble columns and veneers, and sublime mosaics with complex geometric motifs dating from the 4th century AD.
You can also visit the ancient site of La Hillère and the Notre-Dame chapel, which houses several mosaics. For information on visiting times and conditions, visit the monument's website www.montmaurin-archeo.fr or call 05.61.88.39.94.
