Non ! Le Musée du tabac n’est ni un outil de promotion du tabac, ni destiné aux seuls fumeurs ! Ses collections uniques en Europe évoquent la saga d’une plante au destin exceptionnel, tantôt divine, tantôt maudite, née et utilisée en Amérique il y a plus de 3000 ans avant de conquérir l’Afrique puis le monde. Mise au banc des accusés dans son mode de consommation actuel, elle a cependant marqué toutes les civilisations sur le plan sociologique, économique, culturel, artistique et politique. Découvrez dans son auditorium et grâce à l’exposition de pièces rares, ce fait de société universel, l’histoire des usages du tabac et des objets liés à sa consommation. Le Musée du tabac est installé dans la Maison Peyrarède, dite château Henri IV. L’architecture de cet hôtel particulier, bâti au XVIIe pour une riche famille de la bourgeoisie, témoigne du passage de la Renaissance au Classicisme.

Seine in Europa einzigartige Sammlung erinnert an die Geschichte einer außergewöhnlichen Pflanze, die im Laufe der Jahrtausende mal als göttlich, mal als verflucht angesehen wurde. Een plant die meer dan 3000 jaar geleden werd ontdekt en gebruikt in Amerika, alvorens Afrika en daarna de wereld te veroveren. Ook al heeft de tabak in onze huidige consumptiemaatschappij heel wat te verduren, deze plant heeft in alle beschavingen sporen nagelaten op sociologisch, economisch, cultureel, artistiek en politiek vlak.
