Le 25 août 1944, alors que Paris fête sa libération, 124 habitants du village de Maillé sont tués par des soldats allemands. En mêlant culture et pédagogie, la Maison du Souvenir interpelle le visiteur au-delà de cet événement tragique sur le sort des populations civiles en temps de guerre. À travers plus de 250 documents, objets, films…, ce lieu de mémoire vivant retrace également l’histoire de la Résistance en Touraine et en France. En famille, un parcours de visite adapté permettra aux plus jeunes de comprendre le crime commis à Maillé lors de la Seconde Guerre mondiale.

On August 25th 1944, while Paris was celebrating the liberation, 124 inhabitants of the Maillé village were killed by the retreating Nazi troops. Combining culture and education, the Maison du Souvenir invites visitors to go beyond this tragic civilian massacre. With over 250 documents, objects and films, this living memorial also relates the history of the Resistance in Touraine and in France.
