Eglise Sainte Eugénie – Biarritz

L'église Sainte-Eugénie est placée sous le vocable de sainte Eugénie, patronne de la femme de Napoléon III, l'impératrice Eugénie de Montijo. C'est une église néogothique en pierres grises qui domine le Port Vieux. Sa construction a duré de 1898 à 1903. Auparavant s'élevait à cet endroit la chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Pitié. La construction du clocher a commencé en 1927 et les cloches y furent installées en 1931. L'édifice possède des vitraux exceptionnels de Luc-Olivier Merson. La maquette de bateau en ex-voto est un trois-mâts de guerre armé de canons, à la coque bleue, noire et blanche : La Mathilde. L'église est actuellement fermée pour travaux.

The Sainte-Eugénie church is placed under the vocation of Saint Eugénie, patron saint of Napoleon III's wife, the empress Eugénie de Montijo. It is a neo-Gothic church made of grey stones which dominates the old port. Its construction lasted from 1898 to 1903. Previously, the chapel of Notre-Dame-de-Pitié stood on this site. The construction of the bell tower began in 1927 and the bells were installed in 1931. The building has exceptional stained glass windows by Luc-Olivier Merson. The model of a ship in ex-voto is a three-masted ship armed with cannons, with a blue, black and white hull: La Mathilde. Closed for renovation.
