Jahrhundert diente als Zollstation, als das obere Tal nur über den Col du Tourmalet erreichbar war. Zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts wurde hier Barège, ein locker gewebtes, leichtes Wollgewebe, hergestellt, dessen Ruhm sich bis in die Pariser Modewelt verbreitete.

Dit mooie 18e-eeuwse herenhuis diende als douanepost toen de hoger gelegen vallei alleen toegankelijk was via de Col du Tourmalet. Aan het begin van de 19e eeuw werd Barège, een los geweven lichtgewicht wollen stof, hier gemaakt en de faam ervan verspreidde zich naar de Parijse modewereld.
