Chapelle Saint-Sauveur – Mauges-sur-Loire

Érigée par les abbés de Saint-Florent à la charnière des XVe et XVIe siècles, cette chapelle funéraire est de style gothique flamboyant. Sa façade, restaurée au XIXe siècle, conserve très peu d’éléments d’origine mais rappelle tout de même qu’elle a été élevée à une époque de transition entre l’architecture gothique et la Renaissance. À l'intérieur, on trouve un autel qui semble avoir été construit en même temps que le bâtiment ainsi que de magnifiques voûtes nervurées. Initialement, la première sépulture de Jacques Cathelineau reposait au pied de cette chapelle et d’autres vétérans de la guerre de Vendée reposent également dans le cimetière tout comme les cendres de l'auteur florentais Julien Gracq.

Built by the abbots of Saint-Florent at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries, this funerary chapel is in the flamboyant Gothic style. Its facade, restored in the 19th century, retains very few original features, but is a reminder that it was built at a time of transition between Gothic and Renaissance architecture. The interior features an altar that appears to have been built at the same time as the building, and magnificent ribbed vaults. Initially, Jacques Cathelineau's first burial place lay at the foot of this chapel, and other veterans of the Vendée War are also buried in the cemetery, as are the ashes of Florentine author Julien Gracq.

Um das Innere der Kapelle Saint-Sauveur zu entdecken, können Ihnen die Schlüssel vom Tourismusbüro in Saint-Florent-le-Vieil ausgeliehen werden, das NUR VON APRIL BIS ENDE SEPTEMBER GEÖFFNET ist. Ursprünglich befand sich am Fuße der Kapelle die erste Grabstätte von Jacques Cathelineau, und auch andere Veteranen des Vendée-Krieges ruhen auf dem Friedhof, ebenso wie die Asche des florentinischen Autors Julien Gracq.
