Chapelle Notre-Dame – Paray-le-Monial

Perchée sur la colline des Grainetières, cette ancienne église existait dès le IXème siècle et pourrait même avoir une origine pré-romane. Cette probable origine du Haut Moyen–âge explique sa situation excentrée par rapport au bourg et la présence du cimetière autour. L’église Notre-Dame a été utilisée comme église paroissiale de Paray (Paredum) jusqu’au XVIIème siècle. Elle était alors beaucoup plus grande puisqu’il ne reste actuellement que le chœur. On peut voir aussi quelques traces de peinture sans doute de la fin du Moyen-âge représentant des drapés.

Perched on the hill of Grainetières, this ancient church existed as early as the 9th century and could even have a pre-Romanesque origin. This probable origin of the High Middle Ages explains its location off-centre from the town and the presence of the cemetery around it. The church of Notre-Dame was used as the parish church of Paray (Paredum) until the 17th century. At that time it was much larger, as only the choir remains today.
