Description
Le Belvédère de Ouistreham, en plus de sa vue pittoresque, revêt une importance historique liée à la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Construite par les allemands dans les années 1940, cette cuve en béton sur 9 piliers constitue un élément du mur de l’Atlantique. Erigé sur un blockhaus, cet ouvrage était équipé d’un canon antiaérien de 20mm. Pendant l’occupation, un avion Spitfire anglais a été abattu par ce canon. Le 06 juin 1944, pendant le débarquement, un sniper allemand positionné sur le belvédère a tué un soldat du commando Kieffer participant à la prise du Casino. Après la guerre, il fût transformé en point de vue avec une table d’orientation.
D’en haut, le panorama offre une vue à 360° sur la plage de Sword Beach, célèbre lieu du Débarquement de Normandie le 6 juin 1944.

The Belvedere at Ouistreham, in addition to its picturesque view, is of historical importance linked to the Second World War. Built by the Germans in the 1940s, this 9-pillar concrete tank is part of the Atlantic Wall. Erected on top of a blockhouse, it was equipped with a 20mm anti-aircraft gun. During the Occupation, an English Spitfire was shot down by this gun. On June 06, 1944, during the D-Day landings, a German sniper positioned on the belvedere killed a soldier from the Kieffer commando unit taking part in the capture of the Casino. After the war, it was transformed into a viewpoint with an orientation table.
From the top, the panorama offers a 360° view of Sword Beach, the famous site of the Normandy landings on June 6, 1944.

Der Belvédère von Ouistreham bietet nicht nur eine malerische Aussicht, sondern ist auch von historischer Bedeutung im Zusammenhang mit dem Zweiten Weltkrieg.
