Construite sur le versant sud/sud-est de la colline du Cativel, Gardanne, coeur du bassin minier de Provence, est dominé par le centre ancien surmonté d'un solide clocher. Ce site perché, peint plusieurs fois par Cézanne marque certainement l'emplacement du " Castrum ", qui fut au XIème siècle à l'origine de l'agglomération. Fin XIXe siècle, deux pôles d'activité furent crées : l'usine Pechiney (N°1 européen de la production d'alumines techniques) et la mine de charbon (Puit Yvon Morandat, le plus profond d'Europe).

Gardanne, the capital of the Provence Coal Basin, built on the South/South-West slope of Cativel Hill, is dominated by the old centre with a sturdy bell-tower towering above it. This hill-top site painted several times by Cézanne probably marks the location of the “Castrum”, which was the original settlement in the 11th century. At the end of the 19th century, two industries were introduced in the area: the Pechiney plant (leading European producer of industrial alumina) and the coal mine (the Yvon Morandat mine shaft, the deepest in Europe).

Gardanne, das Herz des Bergbaubeckens der Provence, wurde am Süd-/Südosthang des Cativel-Hügels erbaut und wird vom alten Zentrum dominiert, das von einem soliden Glockenturm überragt wird. Dieser hochgelegene Ort, der mehrmals von Cézanne gemalt wurde, markiert zweifellos den Standort des "Castrum", das im 11. Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts entstanden zwei Wirtschaftszentren: die Pechiney-Fabrik (Europas Nr. 1 in der Herstellung von technischer Tonerde) und das Kohlebergwerk (Puit Yvon Morandat, der tiefste Brunnen Europas).

Gebouwd op de zuid/zuidoostelijke helling van de heuvel Cativel, wordt Gardanne, het hart van het mijnbekken van de Provence, gedomineerd door het oude centrum met daarop een stevige klokkentoren. Deze hooggelegen plek, meermaals geschilderd door Cézanne, markeert zeker de plaats van het "Castrum", dat in de 11e eeuw de oorsprong van de stad was. Aan het eind van de 19e eeuw ontstonden twee centra van activiteit: de fabriek van Pechiney (de grootste producent van technische aluminen in Europa) en de kolenmijn (Puit Yvon Morandat, de diepste van Europa).

Construida en la ladera sur/sudeste de la colina de Cativel, Gardanne, corazón de la cuenca minera de Provenza, está dominada por el centro antiguo coronado por un sólido campanario. Este lugar encaramado, pintado varias veces por Cézanne, marca sin duda la ubicación del "Castrum", que en el siglo XI fue el origen de la ciudad. A finales del siglo XIX se crearon dos centros de actividad: la fábrica Pechiney (primer productor europeo de alúminas técnicas) y la mina de carbón (Puit Yvon Morandat, la más profunda de Europa).
