« Double A », Alfred Arnold : pour tous les passionnés de tango, inséparable de son instrument phare le bandonéon, ce nom fascine tout autant que celui de Steinway dans le monde du piano, ou Stradivarius pour les amoureux du violon. Comment pourrait-on mieux exprimer la passion, la fougue, la sensualité tout autant que la déchirante nostalgie propre à cette musique ? Naturellement, les compositeurs bandonéonistes figurent en bonne place dans ce programme : Julian Plaza, Annibal Troilo et bien sûr Astor Piazzolla, sans doute le plus emblématique et novateur. Piazzolla le "revolucionario", qui n'en était pas moins un fervent admirateur de la figure tutélaire de tout musicien : Jean-Sébastien Bach. Bien conscient de cette influence, il a su la mettre magnifiquement en valeur dans nombre de ses compositions. A son tour, le Quatuor Caliente prolonge cette filiation -lointaine mais bien réelle- en proposant quelques transcriptions et adaptations aussi audacieuses que séduisantes. Voici l'occasion d'entendre chaque instrument prendre la parole à tour de rôle, dévoilant toute sa personnalité en sonnant souvent de façon nouvelle, inventive et originale, comme le piano caractéristique d'Horacio Salgan, l’un des plus importants musiciens de Nuevo Tango. Et si, pour reprendre une citation bien connue, « le tango est une pensée triste qui se danse », il arrive également qu’elle se chante – de préférence par des voix légendaires ( Carlos Gardel, Robert Goyeneche…) qui revivent ici grâce à des arrangements qui en préservent toute la richesse. Fermez les yeux et laissez courir votre imagination…c’est à un voyage vers une époque déjà lointaine et pourtant encore tellement vivante que vous convie le Quatuor Caliente, pour retrouver un peu de l’âge d’or d’une musique, d’un instrument, et d’une ville, cette Buenos Aires mythique où tant d’artistes irremplaçables ont vécu, créé, aimé, dérangé parfois, bouleversé souvent…avant que Paris, l’Europe puis le monde entier ne s’enflamment à leur tour. Dès sa fondation à Paris au début des années 2000, le Quatuor Caliente a commencé à attirer l’attention sur la scène du Tango Nuevo. Formé par quatre musiciens éclectiques et passionnés, le groupe est lauréat en 2004 du « Piazzolla Music Award » décerné au Blue Note Jazz Club de Milan, avant d’enregistrer son premier album «  Libertango », promis à un brillant succès, pour le label Aeon / Harmonia Mundi. Leurs interprétations et enregistrements sont unanimement salués par le public comme par la critique. La discographie du Quatuor Caliente compte également deux autres disques parus chez Aeon ( un « live » avec la chanteuse argentine Débora Russ, puis le saisissant « Encuentro » aux côtés du guitariste Laurent Colombani et du vibraphoniste Vincent Maillard). Plus récemment, la sortie de l’album «  Double A » marque une nouvelle étape dans le développement artistique du groupe, tout en célébrant ses vingt ans d’existence. Son vaste répertoire inclut désormais, en plus de nombreuses œuvres d’Astor Piazzolla, des pièces de Horacio Salgan, Julian Plaza, Anibal Troïlo, Pedro Laurenz, Antonio Agri, Alejandro Scarpino…Mais aussi de compositeurs plus actuels somme Juan José Mosalini, Pablo Ziegler, Thomas Bordalejo, ou bien sûr Gustavo Beytelmann – car chaque membre du groupe, tout en rendant hommage à la tradition, se montre désireux de faire vivre le Tango de notre temps, témoignage d’une musique bien vivante et en perpétuelle évolution. Le Quatuor Caliente se produit régulièrement dans toute la France et en Europe ( Suisse, Italie, Belgique…) De nombreux lieux ou évènements de premier plan ont déjà eu l’occasion de les accueillir : le Théâtre de l’Européen, le New Morning, le Petit Journal Montparnasse, le Duc des Lombards, le Théâtre Mouffetard, le Parc Floral, La saison musicale et festival de Radio France, l’Opéra de Lyon, les scènes nationales de Guadeloupe et de Martinique, le Festival Labeaume en Musiques, la saison de l’Abbaye de l’Epau… Parmi beaucoup d’autres. Le groupe a par ailleurs été invité à plusieurs reprises au Festival International «  Virtuosi » de Recife ( Brésil), recevant à chaque fois un accueil enthousiaste et chaleureux. Dans les projets pour les prochaines saisons figure notamment ses débuts en Asie avec des concerts prévus à Taiwan et en Chine. Fin dalla sua fondazione a Parigi, nei primi anni 2000, il Quatuor Caliente ha attirato l'attenzione sulla scena del Tango Nuevo. Formato da quattro musicisti eclettici e appassionati, il gruppo ha vinto il Piazzolla Music Award al Blue Note Jazz Club di Milano nel 2004, prima di registrare il suo album di debutto di grande successo, Libertango, per l'etichetta Aeon / Harmonia Mundi. Le loro esibizioni e registrazioni sono state unanimemente acclamate dal pubblico e dalla critica. La discografia del Quatuor Caliente comprende anche altre due registrazioni per Aeon (un album dal vivo con la cantante argentina Débora Russ, seguito dal sorprendente Encuentro con il chitarrista Laurent Colombani e il vibrafonista Vincent Maillard). Più recentemente, l'uscita dell'album "Double A" segna una nuova tappa nello sviluppo artistico del gruppo, oltre a celebrare i vent'anni di esistenza. Oltre alle opere di Astor Piazzolla, il suo vasto repertorio comprende ora brani di Horacio Salgan, Julian Plaza, Anibal Troïlo, Pedro Laurenz, Antonio Agri e Alejandro Scarpino, oltre a compositori più contemporanei come Juan José Mosalini, Pablo Ziegler, Thomas Bordalejo e, naturalmente, Gustavo Beytelmann perché ogni membro del gruppo, pur rendendo omaggio alla tradizione, è desideroso di far vivere il tango del nostro tempo, testimoniando una musica molto viva e in continua evoluzione. Il Quatuor Caliente si esibisce regolarmente in tutta la Francia e l'Europa (Svizzera, Italia, Belgio, ecc.) e ha già suonato in numerosi luoghi ed eventi importanti, tra cui il Théâtre de l?Européen, il New Morning, il Petit Journal Montparnasse, il Duc des Lombards, il Théâtre Mouffetard, il Parc Floral, la stagione musicale e il festival di Radio France, l'Opéra de Lyon, i palcoscenici nazionali di Guadalupa e Martinica, il Festival Labeaume en Musiques, la stagione dell'Abbaye de l'Epau? E molte altre. Il gruppo è stato inoltre invitato in diverse occasioni al Festival Internazionale Virtuosi di Recife (Brasile), ricevendo ogni volta un'accoglienza calorosa ed entusiasta. I piani per le prossime stagioni prevedono un debutto in Asia, con concerti a Taiwan e in Cina. Fin dalla sua creazione, il Quatuor Caliente è stato ospite regolare di France Musique (Un mardi idéal, la Matinale, en direct des festivals?). France Inter ( le Fou du Roi, le Pop Club?), France Télévision, oltre alle stazioni radio TSF, FIP e Mezzo.
