With Exit Through the Gift Shop, Banksy plays with the codes of the documentary to better blur the lines between art, imposture and the market. As facetious as ever, his film is both jubilant and caustic, asking the question: can street art be framed… without betraying itself? Between market, militancy and myth, the film questions creativity as a tool of protest, blurs the boundaries between homage and plagiarism, and leaves the biggest question hanging: who is Banksy really?
