Depuis 1975, l’hindoue Mata Amritanandamayi, plus connue sous le nom d’Amma, intervient activement au sein d’entités de renommée mondiale telles que l’ONU, l’UNESCO ou le Vatican. Par le biais de son ONG « Embracing The Word », elle mène des actions caritatives à destination des plus démunis dans les domaines de la santé, de l’environnement, des catastrophes naturelles ou de l’éducation. Comme en témoigne l’université (la plus importante d’Inde) qu’elle a elle-même fondée.
