La tour du Canourgue – Molezon

Les fouilles archéologiques entreprises à la tour du Canourgue ont permis de démontrer qu’il s’agissait du donjon d’un château vraisemblablement abandonné à la fin du XIVe siècle ou au début du XVe. Il s’y adossait, hors fortification, tout un ensemble d’habitat dont les ruines sont actuellement effacées par la végétation. Les castra médiévaux avaient une fonction de prestige et un rôle défensif : le castrum du Canourgue a-t-il dû se défendre un jour ? Des érudits évoquent depuis deux siècles la présence d’un réseau de “tours à signaux” destiné à assurer la sécurité des habitants. Le Canourgue a-t-il fonctionné ainsi ?

Archaeological excavations at the Canourgue tower have revealed that it was the keep of a castle probably abandoned in the late 14th or early 15th century. In addition to the fortifications, there was a whole settlement complex, the ruins of which are now being cleared away by vegetation. Medieval castra had both a prestige function and a defensive role: did the Le Canourgue castrum ever have to defend itself? For the past two centuries, scholars have evoked the presence of a network of "signal towers" designed to ensure the safety of the inhabitants. Did Le Canourgue function in this way?

Die archäologischen Ausgrabungen am Turm von Le Canourgue ergaben, dass es sich um den Bergfried einer Burg handelte, die wahrscheinlich Ende des 14. oder Anfang des 15.
