En gascon, Mirepoix se dit "mirepech", issu de "mire" regarde et "pech" sommet. L’origine du village remonte au XVème siècle, autour du château bâti à cette époque. A son origine, celui-ci appartient aux Pardailhan puis racheté par la suite par les Mirabeau et finalement vendu à la famille de Batz. Le village est essentiellement agricole et situé sur la zone d'appellation "haut armagnac" où la tradition viticole demeure… | Le château de Batz (15-16ème siècle) : racheté par la famille de Batz en 1761 dont d'Artagnan est l'un des plus illustres descendants. Il s'agit d'une grande bâtisse en pierre de taille. A l’intérieur se trouve un escalier en pierre remarquable, avec une belle porte d'entrée. | L'église Saint-Jean-Baptiste : à l'intérieur se trouve installée dans un cadre du XVIIIème siècle et ornée d'une couronne royale offert par Louis XV au seigneur de Batz, une toile représentant Saint-Jean Baptiste.
