Statue de Cezanne – Aix-en-Provence

D'une hauteur de 2,25m, Cezanne est représenté prêt à peindre "sur le motif", avec son chapeau, son sac à dos et son bâton de marche. Sterk s'est d'ailleurs inspiré d'une photographie pour réaliser son œuvre. Le sculpteur, reconnu pour ses bronzes, et notamment ceux d'artistes comme Rembrandt ou Van Gogh, s'installe à Aix-en-Provence en 2000. Étonné de l'absence de statue rendant hommage à l'enfant du pays, il décide donc d'en réaliser une. Par la suite, celle-ci sera offerte à la ville par l'association Aix-en-Oeuvre et sera installé en 2006 à l'occasion du centenaire de la mort de Cezanne. La statue fait face à la Rotonde et au Cours Mirabeau mais surtout à la Sainte-Victoire, sujet de prédilection du peintre.

Standing 2.25 m tall, Cezanne is shown ready to paint “on the spot”, with his hat, backpack and walking stick. Sterk drew inspiration for his work from a photograph. The sculptor, renowned for his bronzes of artists such as Rembrandt and Van Gogh, moved to Aix-en-Provence in 2000. Surprised by the absence of a statue paying tribute to the local boy, he decided to create one. The statue was subsequently donated to the town by the Aix-en-Oeuvre association, and installed in 2006 to mark the centenary of Cezanne's death. The statue faces the Rotonde and Cours Mirabeau, but above all the Sainte-Victoire, Cezanne's favorite subject.

Der 2,25 m hohe Cezanne ist mit Hut, Rucksack und Wanderstock abgebildet, wie er "auf dem Motiv" malt. Sterk ließ sich bei seinem Werk von einer Fotografie inspirieren. Der Bildhauer, der für seine Bronzefiguren, insbesondere von Künstlern wie Rembrandt und Van Gogh, bekannt ist, ließ sich im Jahr 2000 in Aix-en-Provence nieder. De beeldhouwer, bekend om zijn bronzen beelden van met name kunstenaars als Rembrandt en Van Gogh, verhuisde in 2000 naar Aix-en-Provence. Verrast door de afwezigheid van een standbeeld als eerbetoon aan de plaatselijke jongen, besloot hij er een te maken. Het standbeeld werd vervolgens aan de stad geschonken door de vereniging Aix-en-Oeuvre en werd in 2006 geïnstalleerd ter ere van de honderdste sterfdag van Cezanne. Het standbeeld kijkt uit op de Rotonde en de Cours Mirabeau, maar vooral op de Sainte-Victoire, het favoriete onderwerp van Cezanne.
