Porte de Paris – Nevers

La construction de l’actuelle Porte de Paris remonte au XVIIIème siècle sur l’emplacement de l’ancienne porte des Ardilliers, élevée au XIIème siècle. Cette porte adopte la forme d’un arc de triomphe avec une seule ouverture en plein-cintre. Les inscriptions de l’intérieure de l’arc, endommagées, sont restaurées en 1828 et 1864 ; elles commémorent, d’un côté, en latin, l’érection du monument et de l’autre célèbrent, en français, en vers achetés à Voltaire, la victoire de Louis XV à la bataille de Fontenoy, le 11 mai 1745. La porte de Paris est classée monument historique en 1930. 

The construction of the current Porte de Paris dates back to the 18th century on the site of the old Porte des Ardilliers, built in the 12th century. This gate is in the form of a triumphal arch with a single semicircular opening. The inscriptions on the inside of the arch, which had been damaged, were restored in 1828 and 1864; they commemorate, on the one hand, in Latin, the erection of the monument and, on the other hand, in French, in verses bought from Voltaire, the victory of Louis XV at the battle of Fontenoy, on 11 May 1745. The Porte de Paris was classified as a historical monument in 1930

Die heutige Porte de Paris wurde im 18. Jahrhundert an der Stelle der alten Porte des Ardilliers errichtet, die im 12. Jahrhundert errichtet worden war. Das Tor hatte die Form eines Triumphbogens mit einer einzigen Rundbogenöffnung. Die beschädigten Inschriften auf der Innenseite des Bogens wurden 1828 und 1864 restauriert; sie erinnern einerseits in lateinischer Sprache an die Errichtung des Denkmals und andererseits in französischer Sprache in Versen, die bei Voltaire gekauft wurden, an den Sieg von Ludwig XV. in der Schlacht von Fontenoy am 11. Mai 1745. Die Porte de Paris wurde 1930 zum historischen Monument erklärt.
