L'EGLISE SAINT-PAUL – Frontignan

Classée Monument Historique depuis 1919, l’église Saint-Paul, typique du style gothique méridional, fut construite entre le XIIème et XIVème siècle. Elle était intégrée dans les fortifications de la cité. Vous remarquerez une particularité rare pour ce type d’édifice : son plafond en bois dont l’une des poutres a été superbement peinte au XIVème siècle. Des visites commentées sont proposées lors des Journées du Patrimoine.

A fortified structure, the church stands at the north-east corner of the town’s mediaeval wall (integrated with the 15th century one), and its northern wall merges with it. Its first Romanesque building dates from the beginning of the 12th century. The first building was partly destroyed for unknown reasons. Rebuilt from the remains still visible in the 14th century, the church was mostly destroyed when it was raided in 1361. It has been rebuilt many times. The first structure was destroyed for unknown reasons and rebuilt from the bottom of the southern wall at the end of the 12th century. It was rebuilt in line with the Gothic style of the south of France. Listed as a historical monument since 1919, the church has benefited from restoration campaigns since 1965.

Die befestigte Kirche befindet sich im nordöstlichen Winkel der mittelalterlichen Stadtmauer (in die sie im 15. Jahrhundert integriert wurde), ihre Nordwand ist eins mit ihr. Erstmalig wurde sie Anfang des 12. Jahrhunderts im romanischen Stil errichtet. Dieses Vorgängergebäude wurde unter unbekannten Umständen teilweise zerstört. Im 14. Jahrhundert wurde die Kirche anhand von erhalten gebliebenen Resten wieder aufgebaut, wurde aber 1361 bei einem Angriff zerstört. Sie wurde mehrfach wieder aufgebaut. Das erste Gebäude wurde aus unbekannten Gründen zerstört und dann ab dem 12. Jahrhundert auf dem Fundament der Südmauer neu errichtet. Sie wurde im Stil der Südgotik wieder aufgebaut. Die seit 1919 denkmalgeschützte Kirche wurde seit 1965 mehrfach restauriert.

De kerk Saint-Paul, die sinds 1919 op de monumentenlijst staat en typisch is voor de zuidelijke gotiek, werd gebouwd tussen de 12e en 14e eeuw. Het maakte deel uit van de vestingwerken van de stad. Een zeldzaam kenmerk van dit type gebouw is het houten plafond, waarvan een van de balken in de 14e eeuw prachtig beschilderd werd. La iglesia, que es una construcción fortificada, se encuentra en el ángulo noreste de la muralla medieval de la ciudad (integrada en ella en el siglo XV); su muro norte se confunde con el suyo. Su primera edificación de tipo romano data de principios del siglo XII. Este primer edificio fue destruido parcialmente en circunstancias desconocidas. Reconstruida a partir de los vestigios restantes en el siglo XIV, la iglesia fue destruida de nuevo en gran parte durante una incursión por vía terrestre en 1361. Ha sido objeto de numerosas reconstrucciones. El primer edificio fue destruido en circunstancias desconocidas y se volvió a edificar sobre la base del muro sur desde finales del siglo XII. Fue reconstruida siguiendo el estilo gótico meridional. Clasificada como monumento histórico desde 1919, desde 1965 la iglesia ha experimentado diversas campañas de restauración.

Classificata come Monumento Storico dal 1919, la chiesa di Saint-Paul, tipica dello stile gotico meridionale, fu costruita tra il XII e il XIV secolo. Faceva parte delle fortificazioni della città. Una caratteristica rara di questo tipo di edificio è il soffitto in legno, una delle cui travi è stata superbamente dipinta nel XIV secolo.
