LE FORT SAINT-SÉBASTIEN

Dominant le terrain de football, ce petit fort peu connu est une annexe de la citadelle. Erigé entre 1850 et 1853, sur une colline située au nord-ouest de la ville, il occupait une position stratégique très importante. Ses bastions casematés interdiront à l'ennemi, durant le siège de 1870-1871,toute approche de la place. Le camp retranché, aménagé à ses pieds, avait donné asile à un millier d'hommes pendant 9 mois. Le fort est accessible au public lors d'animations (journées du patrimoine, etc.).

Overlooking the football field, this little-known fort is an annex to the citadel. Erected between 1850 and 1853, on a hill to the northwest of the city, it occupied a very important strategic position. During the siege of 1870-1871, its casemated bastions prohibited the enemy from approaching the square. The entrenched camp, set up at its feet, had given shelter to a thousand men for nine months. The fort is open to the public during events (heritage days, etc.).

Dieses kleine, wenig bekannte Fort, das den Fußballplatz überragt, ist ein Nebengebäude der Zitadelle. Es wurde zwischen 1850 und 1853 auf einem Hügel im Nordwesten der Stadt errichtet und hatte eine sehr wichtige strategische Position. Seine kasematisierten Bastionen hinderten den Feind während der Belagerung von 1870-1871 daran, sich der Festung zu nähern. Das zu seinen Füßen errichtete verschanzte Lager bot neun Monate lang tausend Männern Unterschlupf.
