À Montpellier, dans un espace situé dans le quartier Gambetta, le Fonds régional d’art contemporain Occitanie Montpellier propose des expositions monographiques ou collectives, des événements et des rencontres, et un éventail de visites sur mesure. La première mission du Frac, soutenu par la Région Occitanie et le ministère de la Culture, est de constituer une collection. Cette collection est une entité vivante qui ne cesse d’être active et exposée non seulement en Occitanie mais partout en France et dans le monde, où les œuvres sont prêtées à longueur d’année à des musées, centres d’art, lieux associatifs ou patrimoniaux, dans des établissements scolaires, des salles communales, des foyers sociaux ou ruraux… En 2024, le Frac compte 1501 œuvres de 524 artistes de toutes nationalités, et représentatives de la diversité de la création. Depuis septembre 2023, le Frac Occitanie Montpellier est dirigé par Éric Mangion.
