Eglise Prieuré Saint-Michel des Anges – Saint-Angel

Venez contempler l'Histoire du haut d'un promontoire ! Le prieuré et l'église Saint-Michel-des-Anges étaient une dépendance de l'abbaye poitevine de Charroux. Construite dans un premier temps à l'époque romane, l'église a été fortement remaniée aux XVe et XVIe siècles, avec notamment la construction des voûtes gothiques. Du prieuré bénédictin de Saint Michel-des-Anges, qui jouxtait l'église, ne subsiste plus que l'aile est, dans le prolongement du transept. Elle abrite la salle capitulaire et les anciennes cuisines. L'étage, remanié au XVIIe siècle, abritait les dortoirs. Dans l'aile sud, disparue, se trouvait notamment le réfectoire. L'accès au prieuré est libre tous les jours.

Come and contemplate history from the top of a promontory! The priory and church of Saint-Michel-des-Anges were a dependency of the Poitevin abbey of Charroux. Initially built in the Romanesque period, the church underwent major alterations in the 15th and 16th centuries, including the construction of Gothic vaults. All that remains of the Benedictine priory of Saint Michel-des-Anges, which adjoined the church, is the east wing, in the extension of the transept. It houses the chapter house and former kitchens. The upper floor, remodeled in the 17th century, housed the dormitories. The southern wing, no longer in existence, housed the refectory. Access to the priory is free every day.
