En bordure du rivage avec une vue imprenable sur le Mont-Saint-Michel, découvrez le fonctionnement des milieux naturels de la baie, la manière dont l'homme exploite depuis des siècles ces espaces très particuliers et l'évolution des paysages au travers des âges. Explorez la faune et la flore au cours des saisons, ainsi que les différents milieux naturels. La préservation de ces équilibres constitue aujourd'hui un enjeu majeur pour cet espace inscrit au patrimoine mondial de l'Unesco. L'homme vit dans ce milieu et en a toujours exploité les richesses. Autrefois, il en extrayait le sel par un procédé original, aujourd'hui disparu. L'atelier du saunier vous fait à nouveau découvrir cette technique ancestrale. La pêche à pied professionnelle, autrefois très active, est aujourd'hui peu à peu remplacée par de nouvelles activités, comme l'élevage des huîtres, des moules et des moutons de prés-salés. Les objets collectés sur le territoire (engins de pêche à pied, filets…) vous racontent cette histoire locale. Tous ces espaces, agrémentés de films, de maquettes, de bornes interactives, sont à la portée des grands comme des petits.

DISCOVER THE BAY AND ITS ECO-MUSEUM A meeting with nature’s World Heritage For thousands of years, man has lived in and used the Mont-Saint-Michel Bay. This bay, with its extensive, continually changing landscape, holds an extraordinary biological richness. In its centre, three small rocks have emerged from its depths, dating from very ancient geological periods: the Mont, Tombelaine and Mont Dol. This unique area of land, in which bird, fish and marine mammal populations live with the strongest tides in the world, is listed as a “Major site in France” and has been classified as World Heritage by UNESCO. AN ECO-MUSEUM WHICH EXPLAINS MAN, NATURE AND LANDSCAPES Situated right on the edge of this vastness, the ‘Écomusée de la Baie” is an interpretive centre where you discover the workings of the Bay’s natural environment, the way man has used this very special area for centuries, and the evolution of its landscapes through the ages. PERMANENT EXHIBITION : PROTECTING THE BIOLOGICAL BALANCE(S) Part of the permanent exhibition helps to explain the evolution of the fauna and flora throughout the seasons as well as the characteristics of the different natural environments. Protecting these biological balances has become a major challenge in today’s society. But man also lives in this environment and has always made the most of its riches. In the past, salt was extracted by a unique process no longer used nowadays. In the salt-maker’s workshop you can re-discover this technique….and you even leave with a sachet of salt from the Bay! There is also fishing and shooting. Mussels and salt-marsh sheep are today’s gastronomic highlights of the Bay. All this is explained in the exhibition. PERMANENT EXHIBITION : THE BAY THROUGH THE AGES Do you know how old the rocks are that form the foundations of the Mont-Saint-Michel Bay? Why have seals today replaced mammoths? How has man transformed the Bay’s landscapes? This exhibition answers all these questions and helps us to understand more easily how the Mont-Saint-Michel Bay’s landscapes have changed over thousands of years. This area devoted to the evolution of the Bay’s landscapes is complimented by outdoor exhibits which explain these topics in a fun way. THE ‘ECOMUSEE DE LA BAIE’ : IT IS ALSO ABOUT CULTURE, EDUCATION AND TOURISM Every year, temporary exhibitions on the Bay’s history, landscapes or traditional professions are on show to visitors. A programme of educational activities for schools, activities for tourists (visitors) and even holding company seminars ensures everyone discovers the Bay’s richness in exceptional surroundings.

Entdecken Sie am Ufer mit einem atemberaubenden Blick auf den Mont-Saint-Michel, wie die natürlichen Lebensräume in der Bucht funktionieren, wie der Mensch seit Jahrhunderten diese ganz besonderen Räume nutzt und wie sich die Landschaften im Laufe der Zeit verändert haben. Erkunden Sie die Tier- und Pflanzenwelt im Laufe der Jahreszeiten sowie die verschiedenen natürlichen Lebensräume. Die Erhaltung dieses Gleichgewichts ist heute eine große Herausforderung für dieses Gebiet, das zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe gehört. Der Mensch lebt in diesem Lebensraum und hat sich seine Reichtümer schon immer zunutze gemacht. Früher wurde das Salz durch ein originelles Verfahren gewonnen, das heute nicht mehr existiert. In der Werkstatt des Sauniers können Sie diese althergebrachte Technik wieder entdecken. Die früher sehr aktive professionelle Fußfischerei wird heute nach und nach durch neue Aktivitäten ersetzt, wie die Zucht von Austern, Miesmuscheln und Salzwiesenschafen. Die auf dem Gebiet gesammelten Objekte (Geräte der Fußfischerei, Netze…) erzählen Ihnen diese lokale Geschichte. All diese Bereiche, die mit Filmen, Modellen und interaktiven Terminals ausgestattet sind, sind für Groß und Klein zugänglich.

Ontdek de flora en fauna door de seizoenen heen en de verschillende natuurlijke omgevingen. Het behoud van dit evenwicht is nu een grote uitdaging voor dit UNESCO Werelderfgoed. De mens leeft in deze omgeving en heeft altijd de rijkdommen ervan geëxploiteerd. Vroeger werd zout gewonnen volgens een origineel procedé dat nu verdwenen is. Het zoutwinningsatelier nodigt je uit om deze eeuwenoude techniek te ontdekken. De beroepsvisserij te voet, ooit zeer actief, wordt nu geleidelijk vervangen door nieuwe activiteiten, zoals de oester-, mossel- en schapenteelt op kwelders. De voorwerpen die in het gebied zijn verzameld (vistuig, netten, enz.) vertellen het verhaal van deze lokale geschiedenis. Al deze ruimtes, met films, maquettes en interactieve terminals, zijn toegankelijk voor jong en oud.

Preservar este equilibrio es ahora un reto importante para este lugar declarado Patrimonio Mundial por la UNESCO. El hombre vive en este entorno y siempre ha explotado sus riquezas. En el pasado, la sal se extraía mediante un proceso original hoy desaparecido. El taller del salinero le invita a descubrir esta técnica milenaria. La pesca profesional a pie, antaño muy activa, está siendo sustituida progresivamente por nuevas actividades, como la cría de ostras, mejillones y ovejas de los prados salados. Los objetos recogidos en la zona (artes de pesca, redes, etc.) narran esta historia local. Todos estos espacios, con películas, maquetas y terminales interactivos, son accesibles a grandes y pequeños.

L'uomo vive in questo ambiente e ne ha sempre sfruttato le ricchezze. In passato, il sale veniva estratto con un processo originale, oggi scomparso. Il laboratorio del salinaio vi invita a scoprire questa tecnica millenaria. La pesca professionale a piedi, un tempo molto attiva, è oggi gradualmente sostituita da nuove attività, come l'allevamento di ostriche, cozze e pecore dei prati salmastri. Gli oggetti raccolti nella zona (attrezzi da pesca, reti, ecc.) raccontano questa storia locale. Tutte queste aree, con filmati, modelli e terminali interattivi, sono accessibili a grandi e piccini.
