C'est sous l'épiscopat de mgr Baillès en 1850 que se décide la construction d'un collège catholique à l'usage de toute la Vendée. En 1850, son emplacement se trouve hors de la ville qui débute son expansion industrielle et territoriale grâce à la rénovation de son port. La réalisation de ce projet est confiée à l'architecte diocésain Émile Boeswilwald. L'établissement ouvre ses portes en 1856, est agrandi vers le nord en 1869 et la chapelle qui délimite la « cour Richelieu » est achevée en 1882.
À la suite à la séparation des Églises et de l'État en 1905, le collège est transféré à La Roche-sur-Yon et les locaux accueillent le grand séminaire diocésain. Pendant la Première Guerre mondiale l'établissement a accueilli un hôpital militaire, le séminaire cesse son activité en 1972. Propriété privée, il ne se visite actuellement pas.

It was under the episcopacy of Mgr Baillès in 1850 that the decision was taken to build a Catholic college for the whole of the Vendée. In 1850, it was located outside the town, which was beginning its industrial and territorial expansion with the renovation of its port. The project was entrusted to diocesan architect Émile Boeswilwald. The school opened its doors in 1856, was enlarged to the north in 1869 and the chapel delimiting the "Cour Richelieu" was completed in 1882.
Following the separation of Church and State in 1905, the college was transferred to La Roche-sur-Yon, where it became the home of the diocesan major seminary. During the First World War, the school housed a military hospital, and the seminary ceased operations in 1972. Privately owned, it is not currently open to the public.

Unter dem Episkopat von Bischof Baillès im Jahr 1850 wurde der Bau eines katholischen Gymnasiums für die gesamte Vendée beschlossen. Im Jahr 1850 befand sich ihr Standort außerhalb der Stadt, die dank der Erneuerung ihres Hafens ihre industrielle und territoriale Expansion begann.
