Château Saint-Sixte – Freistroff

Cap sur le Pays de Nied par la route buissonnière conduisant à Freistroff près de Bouzonville. Dans une petite plaine entre Freistroff et Remelfang s'élève majestueusement le château Saint-Sixte, construit au XIIème siècle par le seigneur Wirich de Valcourt. Transformé en résidence à la Renaissance puis remanié au XVIIIème siècle, ce joyau architectural a été sauvé de la ruine par la famille Gehl, de Falck en 1986. C'est un bâtiment au plan ovale, ceint d'anciennes douves et dont les six corps, couverts de hauts toits à deux versants de tuiles en écailles, sont disposés autour d'une cour intérieure. Dans chaque angle, une tourelle d'escalier polygonale permet d'accéder aux étages. En 1998, il obtient le premier prix de Vieilles Maisons Françaises (Grand Prix Friends of VMF).
