CAVE COOPÉRATIVE HISTORIQUE DE MARAUSSAN – Maraussan

Symbole du mouvement coopératif viticole, la cave coopérative des Vignerons Libres, fondée en 1901 à Maraussan, est la première de France. Construite en 1905, elle se distingue par son architecture emblématique en pierres et briques, ornée de la devise « Tous pour un, un pour tous », reflétant l'esprit solidaire des viticulteurs. Pensée pour intégrer les progrès techniques de l'époque, elle abritait un matériel moderne et perfectionné. Jean Jaurès, lors d'une visite historique, a salué cette initiative collective comme un exemple du « vin de la révolution sociale ».

The Vignerons Libres cooperative cellar remains the symbol of the wine cooperative movement of the early 20th century. It was the first wine cooperative founded in France in 1901. This was followed by the construction in 1905 of the wine-making cellar in Maraussan, characteristic of an architecture marking the Languedoc landscape. On its imposing stone and brick façade, the rallying motto "All for one, one for all" can be read, through which the winegrowers affirm their individual commitment to a collective enterprise. The building was designed with all possible comfort and progress in mind, and the cellar contained modern and sophisticated equipment. Jean Jaurès, during his historic visit to the construction site, made a memorable speech, praising this example of collective action where "the wine of the social revolution" was produced.
