An interpretation center and a discovery trail plunge you into the history of the Châtel feudal motte and its castle, which once belonged to the barony of Fougères. Recently acquired by the commune, the motte is the subject of an ambitious medium- and long-term development project led by APPAC (Association de Protection du Patrimoine de l?Antrainais et du Coglais). The motte de Marcillé-Raoul is a particularly interesting example of a feudal motte, thanks to its excellent legibility. The site consists of two unequal mottes, 15 m and 8 m high, separated by a 5 m deep ditch. The buttes du Châtel are the only evidence of the castle built in 1240 by Lord Raoul III de Fougères, on the edge of the ancient Roman road from Rennes to Avranches, since called the chemin de la duchesse Anne. Today, a grotto dedicated to Notre-Dame is located on the site. A few meters from the mounds, you'll find the Archéolab, a new interpretation area dedicated to the history of the historic site, open to the public. On-site parking and picnic tables are available.

Ein Interpretationszentrum und ein Entdeckungsparcours lassen Sie in die Geschichte der feudalen Motte von Châtel und ihres Schlosses eintauchen, das zur Baronie von Fougères gehörte. Die Motte befindet sich seit kurzem im Besitz der Gemeinde und ist Gegenstand eines ehrgeizigen Projekts zur mittel- und langfristigen Aufwertung, das von der APPAC (Association de Protection du Patrimoine de l'Antrainais et du Coglais) getragen wird. Die Motte von Marcillé-Raoul ist aufgrund ihrer guten Lesbarkeit ein besonders interessantes Zeugnis unter den feudalen Motten. Die Anlage besteht aus zwei ungleichen Erdhügeln mit einer Höhe von 15 m und 8 m, die durch einen 5 m tiefen Graben voneinander getrennt sind. Die Hügel des Châtel sind das einzige Zeugnis der Burg, die 1240 von Lord Raoul III. von Fougères am Rande der alten Römerstraße Rennes-Avranches, die seither Herzogin-Anne-Weg genannt wird, errichtet wurde. Heute befindet sich auf dem Gelände eine Notre-Dame gewidmete Grotte. Nur wenige Meter von den Hügeln entfernt befindet sich das Archéolab, ein neuer, frei zugänglicher Raum zur Interpretation der Geschichte der historischen Stätte. Vor Ort stehen Ihnen ein Parkplatz und Picknicktische zur Verfügung.
