Description

The exhibition highlights a donation of old photographs made by a private individual. These previously unpublished photographs, taken by the painter André Grimard, reveal the face of Bayonne at the beginning of the 20th century, before the urbanization work that profoundly altered its geography. The photographer?s descendant, who donated the photographs, is lending André Grimard?s watercolors for the occasion. In this way, the artist?s photographic and painting work, driven by his desire to bear witness to his city in the midst of transformation, are put into perspective.
More than fifty views of Bayonne at the beginning of the 20th century, many of them previously unpublished, will be accompanied by objects that once belonged to the artist and archival documents from the Département?s holdings that shed light on his career.
