Les petits-enfants de Paul Nicolas et la Ville de Laxou ont choisi de rendre hommage à Paul Nicolas (1875–1952), maître verrier au talent éclatant, figure souvent méconnue du grand public, mais pourtant centrale dans l’histoire des arts décoratifs du XXe siècle qui fut également Conseiller municipal, puis Maire de Laxou de 1903 à 1905, et à nouveau Conseiller municipal jusqu’en 1908. À travers une sélection unique de pièces d’exception – vases, tableaux, croquis, photographies et documents d’archives – l’exposition propose une lecture renouvelée de ses créations, en les replaçant dans leur contexte historique, social et personnel. Elle retrace ses actions militantes, son réseau d’amitiés artistiques et politiques, ainsi que ses prises de position.

The grandchildren of Paul Nicolas and the town of Laxou have chosen to pay tribute to Paul Nicolas (1875?1952), a master glassmaker of dazzling talent, a figure often overlooked by the general public, yet central to the history of 20th-century decorative arts. He was also a town councillor, then Mayor of Laxou from 1903 to 1905, and again a town councillor until 1908. Through a unique selection of exceptional pieces – vases, paintings, sketches, photographs and archival documents – the exhibition offers a fresh reading of his creations, placing them in their historical, social and personal context. It retraces his militant actions, his network of artistic and political friendships, and the positions he took.
