Deux pièces musicales issues d’oeuvres littéraires – Les Caractères de La Bruyère et le conte russe L’Histoire du Soldat – ayant en commun d’illustrer des personnages à travers les instruments de l’orchestre accompagnés d’un narrateur. Née de la rencontre entre Jean-Luc Girard et Bastien Barraco, la création musicale Les Caractères personnifie les tempéraments imaginés par La Bruyère. Reconnaître Arrias le vantard, Giton le riche, Gnathon le goinfre égoïste, l'Avarice ou La cour devient un jeu de devinettes éclairé par le récitant. La pièce L’Histoire du Soldat d’Afanasiev, narrant « les aventures du soldat déserteur et du Diable qui arrive infailliblement à lui ravir son âme », fut créée par Igor Stravinsky et l’écrivain Charles-Ferdinand Ramuz. Imaginée comme « un petit théâtre ambulant », elle donne tour à tour la parole aux acteurs, à la musique, au récitant, ou les combine en un ensemble. Two pieces of music based on literary works – Les Caractères by La Bruyère and the Russian tale L'Histoire du Soldat – which have in common that they illustrate characters through the instruments of the orchestra accompanied by a narrator. The result of a meeting between Jean-Luc Girard and Bastien Barraco, the musical creation Les Caractères personifies the temperaments imagined by La Bruyère. Recognising Arrias the boaster, Giton the rich man, Gnathon the selfish gourmand, Avarice or La cour becomes a guessing game enlightened by the narrator. Afanasiev's L'Histoire du Soldat (The Soldier's Tale), recounting "the adventures of the deserting soldier and the Devil who unerringly manages to steal his soul", was created by Igor Stravinsky and the writer Charles-Ferdinand Ramuz. Conceived as "a little travelling theatre", it gives voice in turn to the actors, the music and the narrator, or combines them to form an ensemble. Zwei Musikstücke aus literarischen Werken – La Bruyères Les Caractères und das russische Märchen L'Histoire du Soldat -, denen gemeinsam ist, dass sie Charaktere durch die Instrumente des Orchesters illustrieren, die von einem Erzähler begleitet werden. Die musikalische Kreation Les Caractères entstand aus der Begegnung zwischen Jean-Luc Girard und Bastien Barraco und personifiziert die von La Bruyère erdachten Temperamente. Das Erkennen des prahlerischen Arrias, des reichen Giton, des egoistischen Gnathon, der Habgier oder des Hofes wird zu einem Ratespiel, das durch den Erzähler erhellt wird. Das Stück L'Histoire du Soldat von Afanasiev, das "die Abenteuer des desertierten Soldaten und des Teufels, der ihm unfehlbar seine Seele raubt", erzählt, wurde von Igor Strawinsky und dem Schriftsteller Charles-Ferdinand Ramuz uraufgeführt. Das Stück wurde als "kleines Wandertheater" konzipiert und lässt abwechselnd die Schauspieler, die Musik und den Sprecher zu Wort kommen oder kombiniert sie zu einem Ensemble. De muzikale creatie Les Caractères is het resultaat van een ontmoeting tussen Jean-Luc Girard en Bastien Barraco en verpersoonlijkt de temperamenten die La Bruyère voor ogen had.
