Elle attend sa comparution devant le Tribunal révolutionnaire, qui pourrait la conduire à l’échafaud. L’entrée soudaine, dans sa cellule, de l’écrivain Louis-Sébastien Mercier, qui avait rêvé d’une Révolution « la plus pacifique et heureuse », est-elle le signe qu’il lui serait possible d’échapper à ce cruel destin ?
