Description

Built at the end of the 19th century, the Marseille tide gauge set the zero altitude for the whole of continental France, thanks to a device unique in the world – the mechanical totalizer. Both a historical monument and a scientific tool, it now plays a key role in monitoring sea-level rise, a direct indicator of climate change. Since 2021, the association Les amis du marégraphe de Marseille has been promoting this heritage. SCP?s topographic department will discuss the importance of topographic surveys in the construction and monitoring of hydraulic structures on the regional Canal de Provence concession. Speakers:
? Alain Coulomb, retired IGN engineer, president of the "Les amis du marégraphe de Marseille" association,
? Philippe Roch, head of SCP's topography division
