Description

Industrial photography has been at the forefront of photography since the end of the 19th century. Today, at a time when globalisation and free trade have destabilised the industrial world, and production lines have been relocated, photographers are using the medium to question the actions of workers and the future of obsolete industrial architecture. This exhibition traces the long history of the representation of industry through photography, from Petiot-Groffier photographing his factories in the mid-19th century to the effervescence of print production during the Trente Glorieuses, from the first business books of the early 20th century to contemporary views of a world that is now, if not bygone, at least implacably damaged.
