Exposition : 1939-45 : mémoires de guerre – 01-10-2025 – Sélestat

À l'occasion des 80 ans de la Libération de la ville de Sélestat, la Bibliothèque Humaniste s'associe aux services Ville d'art et d'histoire et des archives municipales pour témoigner de la résilience et du courage d’un territoire occupé, et à la fragilité du patrimoine en temps de conflit. Une immersion au cœur de la Seconde Guerre mondiale À l’aide de témoignages oraux, mis en résonance avec les archives de la Ville et celles de la Bibliothèque Humaniste, l'exposition retrace les épisodes marquants de cette histoire locale troublée : de l’attente incertaine de la "drôle de guerre" aux défis imposés par la protection des biens culturels et l’éventualité des évacuations. Mais elle évoque aussi la mise sous contrôle de la population par l’administration nazie ou la tragédie de l'incorporation de force, jusqu’à à la Libération de la ville, intervenue dans un contexte de violents combats. Comprendre une période complexe Au-delà d’une simple restitution de faits historiques locaux, cette exposition constitue une démarche de transmission et de compréhension d’une période complexe, dont les événements font écho aux enjeux politiques contemporains. L'approche choisie vise à éclairer l'Histoire sous différents angles. Elle vise, par là-même, une appropriation collective de cette mémoire. La commémoration se révèle alors comme un outil de construction et de maintien d'une mémoire partagée.  

To mark the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Sélestat, the Humanist Library has joined forces with the Ville d'art et d'histoire and the municipal archives to bear witness to the resilience and courage of an occupied territory, and to the fragility of heritage in times of conflict. Immersion in the heart of the Second World War With the help of oral testimonies, set against the backdrop of the town?s archives and those of the Humanist Library, the exhibition retraces the key episodes in this troubled local history: from the uncertain anticipation of the "phony war" to the challenges imposed by the protection of cultural assets and the possibility of evacuations. But it also evokes the Nazi administration?s control of the population and the tragedy of forced conscription, right up to the city?s Liberation, which took place against a backdrop of violent fighting fighting. Understanding a complex period More than a simple reconstruction of local historical events, this exhibition is a means of transmitting and understanding a complex period, whose events echo contemporary political issues. The chosen approach aims to shed light on history from different angles. In so doing, it aims to encourage collective appropriation of this memory. Anlässlich des 80. Jahrestages der Befreiung der Stadt Sélestat arbeitet die Humanistische Bibliothek mit den Abteilungen Kunst- und Geschichtsstadt und Stadtarchiv zusammen, um die Widerstandsfähigkeit und den Mut eines besetzten Gebietes und die Zerbrechlichkeit des Kulturerbes in Konfliktzeiten zu bezeugen. Ein Eintauchen in den Zweiten Weltkrieg Anhand von mündlichen Berichten, die mit den Archiven der Stadt und der Humanistischen Bibliothek in Verbindung gebracht werden, zeichnet die Ausstellung die wichtigsten Episoden dieser turbulenten lokalen Geschichte nach: von der unsicheren Erwartung des "drôle de guerre" bis hin zu den Herausforderungen, die der Schutz von Kulturgütern und die Möglichkeit von Evakuierungen mit sich brachten. Ter gelegenheid van de 80e verjaardag van de bevrijding van Sélestat werkt de Humanistische Bibliotheek samen met de Stad van Kunst en Geschiedenis en het gemeentearchief om te getuigen van de veerkracht en moed van een bezet gebied en van de kwetsbaarheid van erfgoed in tijden van conflict.
