Le Gospel est né, au 18e siècle, dans le cœur et la poitrine des esclaves noirs qui travaillaient dans de gigantesques plantations du Sud des Etats-Unis. Il s’agit essentiellement de cantiques protestants en langue anglaise, qu’ils ont appris au contact de leurs maîtres (qui les faisaient participer aux offices religieux…) Les esclaves se sont appropriés ces cantiques, les ont enrichis de leur propre culture, et ont créé ainsi une forme musicale nouvelle, originale, rythmée et profondément authentique. Depuis 2018 le QUARTET GOSPEL, originaire de Strasbourg, raconte et chante cette dramatique histoire.

Gospel music was born in the 18th century in the hearts and breasts of the black slaves who worked on the gigantic plantations of the American South. These were essentially Protestant hymns in the English language, which they learned from their masters (who made them take part in religious services?). The slaves appropriated these hymns, enriched them with their own culture, and thus created a new musical form, original, rhythmic and profoundly authentic. Since 2018, Strasbourg-based QUARTET GOSPEL has been telling and singing this dramatic story.

Die Gospelmusik entstand im 18. Jahrhundert in den Herzen und Brüsten der schwarzen Sklaven, die auf den riesigen Plantagen im Süden der USA arbeiteten. Die Sklaven eigneten sich diese Lieder an, bereicherten sie mit ihrer eigenen Kultur und schufen so eine neue, originelle, rhythmische und zutiefst authentische musikalische Form. Seit 2018 erzählt und singt das GOSPEL QUARTET aus Straßburg diese dramatische Geschichte.

Gospelmuziek ontstond in de 18e eeuw in de harten en kisten van de zwarte slaven die op de enorme plantages in het zuiden van de Verenigde Staten werkten. Het waren voornamelijk protestantse hymnes in de Engelse taal, die ze leerden van hun meesters (die hen verplichtten deel te nemen aan religieuze diensten?). De slaven eigenden zich deze hymnes toe, verrijkten ze met hun eigen cultuur en creëerden zo een nieuwe muzikale vorm, origineel, ritmisch en diep authentiek. Sinds 2018 vertelt en zingt het GOSPEL QUARTET uit Straatsburg dit dramatische verhaal.

La música gospel nació en el siglo XVIII en el corazón y el pecho de los esclavos negros que trabajaban en las enormes plantaciones del sur de Estados Unidos. Se trataba esencialmente de himnos protestantes en lengua inglesa, que aprendían de sus amos (¿quién les obligaba a participar en los servicios religiosos?). Los esclavos se apropiaron de estos himnos, los enriquecieron con su propia cultura y crearon así una nueva forma musical, original, rítmica y profundamente auténtica. Desde 2018, el GOSPEL QUARTET de Estrasburgo cuenta y canta esta dramática historia.

La musica gospel nacque nel XVIII secolo nel cuore e nel petto degli schiavi neri che lavoravano nelle grandi piantagioni del sud degli Stati Uniti. Si trattava essenzialmente di inni protestanti in lingua inglese, appresi dai loro padroni (che li costringevano a partecipare alle funzioni religiose?). Gli schiavi si appropriarono di questi inni, li arricchirono con la propria cultura e crearono così una nuova forma musicale, originale, ritmica e profondamente autentica. Dal 2018, il GOSPEL QUARTET di Strasburgo racconta e canta questa drammatica storia.
