Fondé en 1853, le Guignol Guérin à Bordeaux, est le théâtre de marionnettes le plus ancien de France. Chez les Guérin, de père en fils se perpétue la tradition du véritable Guignol lyonnais, répertoire basé sur la vie de tous les jours qui s'adresse aussi bien aux enfants qu'aux parents. Canut impertinent avec son chapeau plat et sa natte, il ne faut pas croire que Guignol ait été inventé pour les enfants… C’était une sorte de journal télévisé de l'époque.
