RISING APE – Toulouse

Rising Ape est un spectacle satirique sur notre obsession pour la productivité. Être productif serait une vertu : efficace, rentable, utile à la société. Mais derrière cette promesse se cache une autre réalité — pression permanente, violence du travail sur les corps et les esprits. En contrepoint, Rising Ape s’inspire du speedrun, une pratique issue du jeu vidéo où l’on termine un jeu le plus vite possible, en optimisant chaque geste, en détournant les règles, en exploitant les failles. Une course absurde à la performance, poussée à l’extrême — mais collective, joyeuse. Sur scène, le Cirque redevient Travail et le Travail un véritable Cirque.

"Rising Ape" is a satirical show about our obsession with productivity. Being productive is supposedly a virtue: efficient, profitable, and beneficial to society. But behind this promise lies another reality: constant pressure and the toll that work takes on our bodies and minds. As a counterpoint, Rising Ape draws inspiration from speedrunning, a practice originating in video games where players complete a game as quickly as possible by optimizing every move, bending the rules, and exploiting glitches. An absurd race for performance, pushed to the extreme—yet collective and joyful. On stage, the Circus becomes Work once more, and Work becomes a true Circus.

„Rising Ape“ ist eine satirische Aufführung über unsere Besessenheit von Produktivität. Produktiv zu sein gilt als Tugend: effizient, rentabel, nützlich für die Gesellschaft. Doch verbirgt sich hinter diesem Versprechen eine andere Realität: ständiger Druck, die Belastung von Körper und Geist durch die Arbeit. Als Gegenpol lässt sich „Rising Ape“ vom Speedrun inspirieren, einer aus Videospielen stammenden Praxis, bei der man ein Spiel so schnell wie möglich durchspielt, indem man jede Bewegung optimiert, die Regeln umgeht und Schwachstellen ausnutzt. Ein absurdes Wettrennen um Leistung, bis zum Äußersten getrieben – aber gemeinschaftlich, fröhlich. Auf der Bühne wird der Zirkus wieder zur Arbeit und die Arbeit zu einem echten Zirkus.

Rising Ape is een satirische voorstelling over onze obsessie voor productiviteit. Productief zijn zou een deugd zijn: efficiënt, rendabel, nuttig voor de samenleving. Maar gaat er achter deze belofte een andere realiteit schuil? Permanente druk, de slopende invloed van het werk op lichaam en geest. Als tegenhanger laat Rising Ape zich inspireren door de speedrun, een praktijk uit de videogamewereld waarbij een spel zo snel mogelijk wordt uitgespeeld, door elke beweging te optimaliseren, de regels te omzeilen en mazen in het systeem uit te buiten. Een absurde prestatierace, tot het uiterste gedreven – maar collectief en vrolijk. Op het podium wordt het circus weer werk en het werk een waar circus.

Pero, ¿se esconde otra realidad tras esta promesa? Presión constante, violencia del trabajo sobre el cuerpo y la mente. Como contrapunto, Rising Ape se inspira en el speedrun, una práctica procedente de los videojuegos en la que se completa un juego lo más rápido posible, optimizando cada movimiento, eludiendo las reglas y aprovechando las lagunas. Una carrera absurda por el rendimiento, llevada al extremo, pero colectiva y alegre. Sobre el escenario, el Circo vuelve a ser Trabajo y el Trabajo, un auténtico Circo.

Rising Ape è uno spettacolo satirico sulla nostra ossessione per la produttività. Essere produttivi sarebbe una virtù: efficienti, redditizi, utili alla società. Ma dietro questa promessa si nasconde un’altra realtà: una pressione costante, la violenza del lavoro sul corpo e sulla mente. Come contrappunto, Rising Ape si ispira allo speedrun, una pratica derivata dai videogiochi in cui si completa un gioco il più velocemente possibile, ottimizzando ogni gesto, aggirando le regole, sfruttando le falle. Una corsa assurda alla prestazione, spinta all’estremo… ma collettiva, gioiosa. Sul palco, il Circo torna a essere Lavoro e il Lavoro un vero e proprio Circo.
