La Nègre

Lorsque le Conseil général en fit l'acquisition, en 1987, la Nègre était une propriété de grand charme. Un écrin de verdure de 88 hectares niché entre Château Gombert, au nord-est de Marseille, et la commune de Plan de Cuques. Les vestiges d'un château, des terrains de tennis, des bassins d'irrigation naguère alimentés par la charmante source des Ouïdes, rehaussaient le caractère de ce beau domaine forestier. Hélas, en 1997, un grand incendie infligea de cruelles blessures au massif de l'Étoile et la Nègre fut touchée. Le Département mit alors tout en oeuvre pour redonner vie à l'espace. Utilisant judicieusement le vieil aménagement fait de restanques soutenues par des bancaous (murets de pierres sèches), on planta donc de nouvelles espèces, moins exposées à la fureur des flammes : oliviers, amandiers, figuiers. Si ces cultures ont pu prospérer, c'est grâce à un solide réseau d'irrigation alimenté par le canal de Provence. Aussi, avec sa nouvelle parure, la Nègre est-elle redevenue ce lieu chaleureux où il fait bon flâner en sécurité, grâce à de puissants asperseurs qui assurent la protection du domaine.
