CHAPELLE AUX GRENOUILLES – Morannes sur Sarthe-Daumeray

Située route de Brissarthe. Modeste Chapelle au centre d’une boucle gracieuse de la rivière, près d’un bras qui forme une petite île, demeure restante d’un culte important dédié à Saint SERENE qui naquit à Spolète autour des années 630-640. Il mourut vers la fin du VIIème siècle. Sa dépouille appartenant à l’Evêque d’Angers qui s’est empressé de quérir CENERE et amené en sa cathédrale. Mais en changeant de résidence le saint changea de nom et devin SERENE. Vocable où les Angevins l’invoquent depuis le XVIème siècle. Le saint dans le diocèse a gardé quelques sanctuaires, dont la Chapelle aux Grenouilles. A partir de 1779 on y disait une messe par semaine. Il y avait également des pélerinages et des rogations qui faisaient certainement une halte à la croix de pierre dont personne ne connaît le propriétaire.

Liegt an der Route de Brissarthe Bescheidene Kapelle in der Mitte einer anmutigen Flussschleife, in der Nähe eines Arms, der eine kleine Insel bildet. Sie ist der Rest eines bedeutenden Kultes, der dem Heiligen SERENE gewidmet war, der um 630-640 in Spoleto geboren wurde und gegen Ende des 7. Jahrhunderts starb. Es gab auch Pilgerfahrten und Rosenkranzfeiern, die sicherlich an dem Steinkreuz Halt machten, dessen Besitzer niemand kennt.

Hij stierf tegen het einde van de 7e eeuw. Zijn stoffelijk overschot behoorde toe aan de bisschop van Angers, die zich haastte om CENERE op te zoeken en hem naar zijn kathedraal te brengen. Maar toen hij van woonplaats veranderde, veranderde de heilige zijn naam en werd SERENE. Deze naam wordt sinds de 16e eeuw door de Angevins aangeroepen.
