Boucieu-le-Roi : Village de Caractère – Boucieu-le-Roi

Situé entre Tournon et Lamastre, surplombant un large méandre du Doux, ce village fut l'ancienne capitale du Haut-Vivarais, en devenant un baillage établi par le roi de France, Philippe-le-Bel jusqu'en 1565, d’où son nom : Boucieu-le-Roi.

The village stands between Tournon and Lamastre overlooking one of the Doux's twists and turns. The former capital of the Haut-Vivarais was made a bailiwick by the King of France, Philippe-le-Bel until 1565, hence the name Boucieu-le-Roi. In 1291, King Philip "le Bel" made Boucieu the seat of a bailiwick court, it's a royal court of justice extending over the whole of the Haut Vivarais and made it a royal town that was directly under his authority (hence the name Boucieu-le-Roi). Free land until its replacement by Annonay in 1565, Boucieu-le-Roi had the King and various "coseigneurs" as its lord. The village was deeply marked by Pierre Vigne (1670-1740), missionary priest of Vivarais, whose tomb is in the church. Arriving in 1712 in Boucieu where he decided to stop after seeing topographical similarities with Jerusalem, he founded the Order of the "Saint Sacrement" there in 1715. His missionary work is perpetuated throughout the world thanks to the Sisters of the "Saint Sacrement" , a congregation born in Boucieu-le-Roi. Pierre Vigne was beatified on 3 October 2004 by Pope John Paul II. Saint John’s Church The Evangelist: Consecrated in 1492 it was partly destroyed during the Wars of Religion (16th century) and then restored in the 17th century. Of the early church only the central part of the facade remains. In this church, a place of pilgrimage, the “Blessed Pierre Vigne” rests. The Bailiff’s House: Listed in the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments since 1927, this beautiful house with its corbelled turret was the seat of the Royal Court of Justice. Boucieu is also the place where the velorail starts for an original discover of the gorge of the Doux.

Im Doux Tal zwischen Tournon und Lamastre, wurde dieser ehemalige kaiserliche Gerichtshof mit reichem Kulturerbe vom französichen König Philip dem Schönen gegründet. Im Jahre 1291 machte König Philippe der Schöne Boucieu zum Sitz eines Vorhofes, das heisst eines königlichen Gerichtshofes, der sich über das gesamte Haut Vivarais erstreckte, und machte es zu einer königlichen Stadt, die ihm direkt unterstand (daher der Name Boucieu-le-Roi). Bis zu seiner Ablösung durch Annonay im Jahre 1565 war Boucieu-le-Roi ein Freiland, dessen Lord der König und verschiedene Mitherren war. Das Dorf wurde tief geprägt von Pierre Vigne (1670-1740), Missionar von Vivarais, dessen Grab sich in der Kirche befindet. Nachdem er 1712 in Boucieu angekommen war, wo er sich entschloss aufzuhalten, nachdem er die topographischen Ähnlichkeiten mit Jerusalem gesehen hatte, gründete er dort 1715 den Orden des Allerheiligsten Sakraments. Ihr Missionswerk wird in der ganzen Welt durch die Schwestern vom Allerheiligsten Sakrament fortbesteht, einer Kongregation, die in Boucieu-le-Roi gegründet wurde. Pierre Vigne wurde am 3. Oktober 2004 von Papst Johannes Paul II. seliggesprochen. Die Kirche St. Johann Evangelist: 1492 geweiht, wurde sie in den Religionskriegen (XVI Jhd. ) teilweise zerstört und im 17. Jhd. restauriert. Von der Urkirche ist nur noch der mittlere Teil der Fassade erhalten. In dieser Kirche, einem Wallfahrtsort, ruht der «Selige Pierre Vigne. » La Maison du Bailli: Dieses wunderschöne Haus mit seinem aushöhlenden Türmchen, das seit 1927 in das Zusatzinventar der historischen Monumente eingetragen ist, war der Sitz des königlichen Gerichtshofs. Das Dorf hat das Label "Dorf mit Charakter" bekommen.

Dit dorp ligt tussen Tournon en Lamastre en kijkt uit over een brede meander van de Doux. Het was de voormalige hoofdstad van de regio Haut-Vivarais en werd tot 1565 een baljuwschap van de Franse koning Philippe-le-Bel, vandaar de naam Boucieu-le-Roi.
