Cette bibliothèque est l’un des plus beaux édifices du XIX° siècle à Cahors. De style néoclassique, elle est l’oeuvre de l’architecte Jean Rodolosse qui a puisé son inspiration dans les grands modèles du XVIIIème siècle. L’espace intérieur s'ordonne autour d’une grande salle de consultation rectangulaire, organisée en travées régulières sur deux niveaux, et dont les boiseries murales sont entièrement tapissées d’ouvrages. Deux escaliers à vis mènent à la galerie supérieure. Le plafond est orné de guirlandes feuillagées et fleuries entourant des rosaces. Les collections sont d'une grande richesse, associant manuscrits, incunables, imprimés.. Le fonds encyclopédique rassemble 40 000 documents.

This library is one of the most beautiful 19th century buildings in Cahors. In neoclassical style, it is the work of the architect Jean Rodolosse who drew his inspiration from the great models of the 18th century. The interior space is organised around a large rectangular consulting room, organised in regular bays on two levels, and whose wall panelling is entirely carpeted with works. Two spiral stairways lead to the upper gallery. The ceiling is adorned with garlands of foliage and flowers surrounding rosettes. The collections are very rich, combining manuscripts, incunabula, prints… The encyclopaedic collection contains 40,000 documents.

Diese Bibliothek ist eines der schönsten Gebäude aus dem 19. Jahrhundert in Cahors. Sie ist im neoklassizistischen Stil erbaut und das Werk des Architekten Jean Rodolosse, der sich von den großen Vorbildern des 18. Der Innenraum ist um einen großen rechteckigen Beratungsraum herum angeordnet, der in regelmäßigen Feldern auf zwei Ebenen organisiert ist und dessen Wandvertäfelungen vollständig mit Werken tapeziert sind. Zwei Wendeltreppen führen zur oberen Galerie. Die Decke ist mit Blatt- und Blumengirlanden verziert, die Rosetten umschließen. Die Sammlungen sind von großem Reichtum und verbinden Handschriften, Inkunabeln und Drucke. Der enzyklopädische Bestand umfasst 40.000 Dokumente.

Las colecciones son muy ricas y combinan manuscritos, incunables y grabados. La colección enciclopédica contiene 40.000 documentos.
