Les républicains fuyant la répression franquiste trouvent refuge en France, où ils sont d’abord parqués dans des camps et dispersés comme main-d'œuvre. Certains s’installent dans le Berry et, grâce à leur ingéniosité, reconstruisent leur vie. From 1936 to 1939, the Spanish Civil War pitted Republicans against Franco?s troops, while Nazism and Fascism gained strength in Germany and Italy. Republicans fleeing Franco?s repression found refuge in France, where they were initially herded into camps and dispersed as laborers. Some settled in Berry and, thanks to their ingenuity, rebuilt their lives. In Sainte-Sévère, they formed an ?artistic group? and, through theater and song, managed to integrate.
