Les informations fournies par les journaux contemporains, les mémoires de certains des artistes passés par la Normandie entre les années 1850 et 1890 ainsi que le dépouillement de la correspondance d’Eugène Boudin, permettent d’établir le recensement des peintres ayant connu l’artiste, né à Honfleur et mort à Deauville. Le 15 septembre 2024, dans le cadre du bicentenaire de la naissance d’Eugène Boudin, nous avons évoqué les échanges artistiques entre Boudin, Camille Corot, Gustave Courbet, Charles Daubigny, Thomas Couture ou Alexandre Dubourg. Cette année, pour achever cet abécédaire, nous précisons les circonstances des rencontres de Boudin avec, entre autres, Eugène Isabey, Johann Barthold Jongkind, Jean-François Millet, Constant Troyon ou Claude Monet. Une rencontre en partenariat avec l’association des Amis du Musée de Trouville.

Thanks to invaluable information gleaned from contemporary newspapers, the memoirs of artists who frequented the Normandy region between the 1850s and 1890s, and the meticulously researched correspondence of Eugène Boudin himself, we can now draw up the first exhaustive list of these artists. This captivating lecture will focus on several aspects: painters residing in the region at the time, such as Adolphe-Félix Cals, Alexandre Dubourg, Gustave Hamelin, and many others; those who traveled to meet Boudin, such as Johan Barthold Jongkind, Pierre Puvis de Chavannes, Théodule Ribot; finally, those who had the privilege of working alongside Boudin, such as Gustave Courbet, Claude Monet, Constant Troyon, to name but a few. On the occasion of the bicentenary of Eugène Boudin's birth, this primer will reveal the circumstances and chronology of the encounters between these exceptional artists, as well as the nature of the artistic exchanges that ensued, shedding new light on this pivotal period in art history.
